La relazione tra il Disturbo Ossessivo-Compulsivo e l'Intolleranza all'Incertezza

The Intolerance of Uncertainty (IU) is considered a transdiagnostic cognitive vulnerability factor that is common in several clinical disorders; however, it plays a central role in the development and maintenance of compulsive behaviours and obsessions in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This thesis reviews studies that investigate the relationship between OCD and IU in both clinical and non-clinical samples, with the aim of contributing to the development of more effective treatments for OCD through the inclusion of interventions designed to reduce Intolerance of Uncertainty. The studies here analysed highlight the importance of implementing therapies aimed at helping individuals manage ambiguous and uncertain situations, thereby promoting positive changes in the clinical picture of individuals diagnosed with OCD or exhibiting obsessive-compulsive traits.

L’Intolleranza all’Incertezza (IU) è considerata un fattore di vulnerabilità cognitiva transdiagnostico comune a più quadri clinici; tuttavia, assume un ruolo centrale nell’acquisizione e nel mantenimento dei comportamenti compulsivi e delle ossessioni nel Disturbo Ossessivo-Compulsivo (OCD). La presente tesi prende in considerazione studi che indagano la relazione tra OCD e IU in campioni clinici e non clinici, al fine di integrare i trattamenti terapeutici per il Disturbo Ossessivo- Compulsivo con interventi focalizzati sulla riduzione dell’Intolleranza all’Incertezza. Gli studi analizzati mettono in luce l’importanza di implementare terapie mirate a gestire le situazioni di ambiguità e incertezza per favorire cambiamenti positivi all’interno di quadri clinici di individui con diagnosi di OCD o con marcati tratti ossessivo-compulsivi.
