This thesis explores the relationship between media multitasking and mind wandering, two increasingly widespread phenomena in today’s digital environment. Media multitasking refers to the simultaneous use of multiple media, whereas mind wandering describes the spontaneous shift of attention from the ongoing task toward internal thoughts unrelated to the activity being performed. After outlining the main theoretical and cognitive characteristics of both constructs, the study reviews the existing literature concerning their effects on attention, cognitive control, and cognitive performance. Particular attention is devoted to studies investigating the relationship between media multitasking and mind wandering.

Abstract
This thesis explores the relationship between media multitasking and mind wandering, two increasingly widespread phenomena in today’s digital environment. Media multitasking refers to the simultaneous use of multiple media, whereas mind wandering describes the spontaneous shift of attention from the ongoing task toward internal thoughts unrelated to the activity being performed. After outlining the main theoretical and cognitive characteristics of both constructs, the study reviews the existing literature concerning their effects on attention, cognitive control, and cognitive performance. Particular attention is devoted to studies investigating the relationship between media multitasking and mind wandering.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
