This thesis explores the relationship between mind wandering — the tendency of the mind to shift toward spontaneous thoughts unrelated to the present moment — and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In particular, it examines how spontaneous and uncontrolled mind wandering may contribute to intrusive thoughts, rumination, and attentional difficulties commonly associated with PTSD. Through a review of psychological and neuroscientific literature, the thesis analyzes the cognitive and neurocognitive mechanisms shared by these two phenomena, as well as possible clinical implications and intervention strategies

Abstract

Spontaneous thought processes and trauma: the link between Mind Wandering and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
