The launch of the IXPE space mission has made it possible to measure the degree and polarization angle of photons originating from various sources, including several magnetars. Regarding the latter, in almost all cases, the data concerning the polarization angle adhere to the Rotating Vector Model (RVM), a model introduced for the first time by Radhakrishnan and Cooke in 1969 in the study of pulsars. This model is well-established under the assumption that the radiation emission region (hotspot) is small. The purpose of this thesis is to test the validity of the model as the hotspot dimensions increase and as the viewing geometry varies, while also investigating the effects of quantum electrodynamics on the polarization angle.

Abstract
The launch of the IXPE space mission has made it possible to measure the degree and polarization angle of photons originating from various sources, including several magnetars. Regarding the latter, in almost all cases, the data concerning the polarization angle adhere to the Rotating Vector Model (RVM), a model introduced for the first time by Radhakrishnan and Cooke in 1969 in the study of pulsars. This model is well-established under the assumption that the radiation emission region (hotspot) is small. The purpose of this thesis is to test the validity of the model as the hotspot dimensions increase and as the viewing geometry varies, while also investigating the effects of quantum electrodynamics on the polarization angle.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
