In recent years, coding has taken on an increasingly important role in the educational context and is considered a useful tool for promoting computational thinking, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and transversal skills among students. Its introduction in preschool and primary school has enabled the experimentation of more active and engaging learning methods. This thesis aims to investigate teachers’ perceptions, experiences, resources, and critical issues related to coding. The research was conducted through the administration of a structured and anonymous questionnaire addressed to preschool and primary school teachers, as well as through interviews carried out with some teachers. From a methodological point of view a mixed-method approach was adopted, combining the statistical analysis of the questionnaire’s quantitative responses with the qualitative analysis of the open-ended questions and interviews. Overall, the results highlight a general recognition of the educational value of coding, especially in relation to the development of computational thinking, logical-mathematical skills, and problem-solving abilities. However, despite the recognized benefits, its integration into teaching practice is not yet fully established and often occurs only occasionally. Furthermore, the use of coding practices in teachers’ educational activities appears to be influenced by several factors, such as teacher training, available resources, and time constraints. The study therefore underlines the importance of promoting specific training paths and greater school support in order to encourage a more conscious integration of coding activities into teaching practice by teachers.
Negli ultimi anni il coding ha assunto un ruolo sempre più rilevante nel contesto educativo e viene considerato uno strumento utile per promuovere negli alunni il pensiero computazionale, il problem solving, il pensiero critico, la creatività e competenze trasversali. La sua introduzione alla scuola dell’infanzia e primaria ha permesso la sperimentazione di modalità di apprendimento più attive e coinvolgenti. L’elaborato si propone di indagare le percezioni, le esperienze, le risorse e le criticità che gli insegnanti attribuiscono al coding. La ricerca è stata condotta attraverso la somministrazione di un questionario strutturato e anonimo rivolto agli insegnanti di scuola dell’infanzia e primaria e mediante interviste realizzate con alcuni docenti. Dal punto di vista metodologico è stato utilizzato un approccio misto che combina l’analisi statistica delle risposte quantitative del questionario con l’analisi qualitativa delle domande aperte del questionario e delle interviste. I risultati, in generale, evidenziano un riconoscimento del valore educativo del coding, soprattutto in relazione allo sviluppo del pensiero computazionale, delle competenze logico-matematiche e del problem solving. Tuttavia, nonostante i benefici riconosciuti, la sua integrazione nella pratica didattica non risulta ancora pienamente consolidata e avviene spesso in modo occasionale. Inoltre, l’impiego di pratiche di coding nell’azione educativa degli insegnanti risulta essere influenzato da diversi fattori quali la formazione dei docenti, le risorse disponibili e il tempo a disposizione. Lo studio sottolinea quindi l’importanza di promuovere percorsi formativi specifici e un maggiore supporto scolastico per favorire un’integrazione più consapevole da parte degli insegnanti di attività di coding nella didattica.
