This thesis proposes a research-intervention project aimed at investigating the value of the learning environment from the perspective of teachers, educators and children, in both school and non-school settings. At the heart of this exploration lies the concept of mapping places that are significant to pupils, with the aim of enhancing these spaces through the active involvement of a collaborative and co-constructive local network. The project, carried out with a Year 4 class at the Roncade Comprehensive School, culminates in the participatory design of a shared space, conceived as a link between the formal school environment — to which it is geographically close — and the informal contexts of the local area, such as community, parish and voluntary organisations. The space has been conceived as an inclusive environment, divided into various functional areas designed to meet the needs of different age groups. The project was developed directly by the pupils who, through a participatory and co-design approach, were involved in identifying and analysing the needs of the various stakeholders in the local area. This methodological choice reflects the fundamental belief that underpins the entire document: that the environment is not a neutral backdrop to the educational experience, but an active agent of development, capable of supporting learning, promoting inclusion and strengthening each individual’s sense of belonging to the educational community of which they are a part.

Abstract
This methodological choice reflects the fundamental belief that underpins the entire document: that the environment is not a neutral backdrop to the educational experience, but an active agent of development, capable of supporting learning, promoting inclusion and strengthening each individual’s sense of belonging to the educational community of which they are a part.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
