Drawing on the contextual analysis presented in the UNESCO report Reimagining Our Futures Together: A New Social Contract for Education, this empirical study investigates the specific contribution that Jesuit schools in Italy can offer in responding to the educational challenges posed by possible futures. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining the administration of questionnaires to teachers with their participation in Future Studies exercises. It is characterised by an innovative and participatory methodology, consistent with recent developments in futures research. Through the exploration of a plurality of futures, the study seeks to deepen understanding of how teachers interpret educational change and envision the role of Jesuit schools within the contemporary context. The findings highlight the potential and distinctive contribution that Jesuit education in Italy can offer in addressing the challenges identified by UNESCO, particularly with regard to renewing teaching practices in a more active and collaborative direction, promoting a pedagogy of solidarity, and strengthening collaboration among teachers. At the same time, the study brings to light several tensions that need to be addressed in order to design the school of the future: the recovery of the relational dimension of education, the relationship between school and society, the impact of digital technologies, environmental issues, and the spiritual dimension. Finally, the study shows how the shared exploration of possible futures may constitute, for Jesuit education, a practice of communal discernment capable of guiding processes of educational and social transformation.

Abstract
Finally, the study shows how the shared exploration of possible futures may constitute, for Jesuit education, a practice of communal discernment capable of guiding processes of educational and social transformation.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
