Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder characterized by marked emotional and relational instability, as well as an unstable sense of self. The present thesis aims to conduct a meta-analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies using the GingerALE software. Studies comparing individuals with BPD and healthy controls during the performance of tasks involving the processing of emotional stimuli or emotion regulation were included. The aim of the meta-analysis is to investigate the hypothesis of a dysfunction within the fronto-limbic network and to identify brain regions showing altered activation patterns in individuals with BPD compared to healthy controls. The results of the meta-analysis revealed a single activation cluster, encompassing several areas of the limbic system, whereas no significant alterations in the activation patterns of prefrontal structures emerged.
