Mentoring e impegno civico: L’ influenza delle esperienze di mentoring sull’impegno civico dei mentor

This paper presents an analysis of mentoring dynamics, with particular attention to the impact that such experiences can have on mentors. Traditionally, research has focused primarily on the effects that mentoring experiences have on the well-being of mentees. This paper, instead, aims to shift the focus toward the experience of those who provide support within these programs (the mentors), by analyzing the benefits they themselves may gain from such experiences. The paper therefore offers a brief overview of mentoring and civic engagement, and then examines the relationship between the two. The first chapter focuses on framing mentoring from a historical perspective, discussing its definitions and the documented effects it has on both mentors and mentees; the second chapter aims to briefly explain the concept of civic engagement; finally, the last chapter presents an analysis of the impact that mentoring experiences have on mentors’ civic engagement.

Il presente elaborato propone un’analisi delle dinamiche di mentoring, con una particolare attenzione sull’impatto che tali esperienze possono avere sui mentor. Tradizionalmente le ricerche si sono focalizzate prevalentemente sullo studio degli effetti che esperienze di mentoring hanno sul benessere dei mentee. Questo elaborato, invece, vuole spostare l’attenzione sull’esperienza di chi offre supporto in questi programmi (i mentor), analizzando i benefici che queste persone possono trarre. L’elaborato offre quindi una breve rassegna di cosa siano il mentoring e l’impegno civico, per poi studiarne la correlazione. Il primo capitolo si focalizza sul cercare di inquadrare il mentoring da un punto di vista storico, delle definizioni e degli effetti documentati che esso ha su mentor e mentee; il secondo capitolo si pone l’obiettivo di spiegare brevemente cosa sia l’impegno civico; l’ultimo capitolo, infine, presenta un’analisi dell’impatto che esperienze di mentoring hanno sull’impegno civico dei mentor.
