Experimental evidence in environmental psychology and spatial cognition demonstrates how stimuli salient in terms of emotional valence and physiological activation (arousal) significantly influence both individual well-being and spatial orientation. Although the literature has extensively explored these benefits through visual paradigms related to natural or urban environments, the impact of auditory stimuli remains partially unexplored. This study aims to investigate the effect of listening to natural, urban, or neutral sounds (white noise) during the auditory presentation of a route description. These routes feature landmarks characterized by natural elements; the primary aim is to verify whether the combination of the textual description and a coherent soundscape enhances learning and maximizes positive emotions. The objective is to assess whether the nature of the soundscapes increases the perception of immersion and the vividness of mental images, modulating emotional responses and enhancing spatial learning. A sample of 190 participants listened to three route descriptions, each paired with a different soundscape. Changes in emotional state and activation were monitored during the pre- and post-test phases, while spatial memory accuracy and landmark recall were measured with a map-drawing task. The analysis of the results included measures of valence and arousal, perceived regenerativeness, and accuracy in the map-drawing task.

Abstract
The analysis of the results included measures of valence and arousal, perceived regenerativeness, and accuracy in the map-drawing task.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
