In this work we explore the usage of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for the estimation of three cosmological parameters (Ωm, ns, σ8) from simulations of lognormal fields, which are statistically complete but not fully described by their power spectrum; such fields can be considered a fair approximation of the real matter density, where the nonlinear evolution of structures by gravity is mimicked by the exponentiation of a gaussian random field. The main architecture used is a ResNet-18, which manages to reach excellent precision with Ωm and σ8 (R2 ⩾ 0.95) but cannot do the same with ns. To partly solve this problem, we switch to a hybrid architecture that also analyzes the power spectrum of the field with a fully connected net. In the end we reach R2(ns) = 0.72, increased to R2(ns) = 0.87 when we double the resolution of the fields and the dataset size.

Abstract
In the end we reach R2(ns) = 0.72, increased to R2(ns) = 0.87 when we double the resolution of the fields and the dataset size.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
