Glasses are out-of-equilibrium materials whose structure and proprieties depend on the thermal history. In this work I employed a Flash Differential Scanning Calorimeter to study the thermodynamical proprieties of a chalcogenide glass. Using different thermal protocols, it is possible to separate the different processes who contribute to the glass relaxation, such as the α-process (structural relaxation) and the β-process, which instead is active even below the glass transition temperature, Tg. Due to their high photo-sensibility, I also studied the effect of sub band-gap illumination on those glasses. In this work, I will also discuss the strategies that I employed to extract the relevant physical information from the obtained calorimetric data.

Abstract
Glasses are out-of-equilibrium materials whose structure and proprieties depend on the thermal history. In this work I employed a Flash Differential Scanning Calorimeter to study the thermodynamical proprieties of a chalcogenide glass. Using different thermal protocols, it is possible to separate the different processes who contribute to the glass relaxation, such as the α-process (structural relaxation) and the β-process, which instead is active even below the glass transition temperature, Tg. Due to their high photo-sensibility, I also studied the effect of sub band-gap illumination on those glasses. In this work, I will also discuss the strategies that I employed to extract the relevant physical information from the obtained calorimetric data.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
