This thesis analyses the theme of the body by comparing the thought of Plato with that of Michel Foucault, highlighting their different educational, political and philosophical implications. The first part examines the conception of the body in The Republic, where physical education serves the formation of the citizen and the order of the just city. It then explores Foucault’s reflection on the body as a site for the exercise of power, discipline and the production of subjectivities. The third chapter compares the two perspectives, highlighting continuities and differences in the relationship between the body, education and society. The aim of the thesis is to show how, despite starting from different theoretical premises, Plato and Foucault offer significant tools for understanding the role of the body in educational processes and in the construction of the individual.

Abstract
This thesis analyses the theme of the body by comparing the thought of Plato with that of Michel Foucault, highlighting their different educational, political and philosophical implications. The first part examines the conception of the body in The Republic, where physical education serves the formation of the citizen and the order of the just city. It then explores Foucault’s reflection on the body as a site for the exercise of power, discipline and the production of subjectivities. The third chapter compares the two perspectives, highlighting continuities and differences in the relationship between the body, education and society. The aim of the thesis is to show how, despite starting from different theoretical premises, Plato and Foucault offer significant tools for understanding the role of the body in educational processes and in the construction of the individual.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
