The aim of the dissertation is to study large-scale structure formation using the quantum mechanical formalism as an alternative to the standard methods. We work on an Einstein-de Sitter universe and examine the linearized fluid approach, the Zel'dovich approximation and the adhesion approximation. We then focus on the free-particle approximation and show that it gives results in excellent agreement with the approximations schemes mentioned.

Abstract

The aim of the dissertation is to study large-scale structure formation using the quantum mechanical formalism as an alternative to the standard methods. We work on an Einstein-de Sitter universe and examine the linearized fluid approach, the Zel'dovich approximation and the adhesion approximation. We then focus on the free-particle approximation and show that it gives results in excellent agreement with the approximations schemes mentioned.
