Study of techniques for determining the Mass Function of Dark Matter haloes.

The Mass Function is a very important topic in Cosmology and Large Scale Structure. This thesis examines some techniques for determining it, focusing mainly on the Excursion Set theory. The aim of this work is on one hand to derive analytically the extended Press-Schechter's Mass Function, solving the cloud-in-cloud problem. On the other hand, I recover the same result from a set of simulations. La funzione di massa è un argomento di notevole importanza in Cosmologia. Questa tesi si propone di esaminare alcune tecniche per determinarla, focalizzandosi sulla teoria dell’Excursion Set. Scopo della tesi è da un lato quello di derivare la funzione di massa nel modello esteso di Press&Schechter, risolvendo il problema cloud-in-cloud. Dall’altro, d’interesse è anche ricavare lo stesso risultato da un set di simulazioni.
