Photoevaporation is the process that is believed to be responsible, together with viscous evolution and planetary formation, for the dissipation of circumstellar disks. This work describes the photoevaporative model and clarifies the role of UV radiation and X-rays in it, showing that EUV (Extreme UltraViolet) photons act marginally compared to FUV (Far UltraViolet) and X-rays. Finally, recent observations of transition disks are discussed since they seem to confirm these results.

Abstract
Photoevaporation is the process that is believed to be responsible, together with viscous evolution and planetary formation, for the dissipation of circumstellar disks. This work describes the photoevaporative model and clarifies the role of UV radiation and X-rays in it, showing that EUV (Extreme UltraViolet) photons act marginally compared to FUV (Far UltraViolet) and X-rays. Finally, recent observations of transition disks are discussed since they seem to confirm these results.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
