ABSTRACT Introduction: in this Bachelor’s thesis, the therapeutic value of Animal Assisted Interventions is explored, in particular with the use of the dog. These interventions are for hospitalized children admitted to health facilities. It is assumed that this practice can increase the improvement of quality of life of hospitalized child, as well as representing a mediation in the interaction between the patient and the professionals. Then, we will outline the role of the professional educator in the practice of Assisted Interventions with Animals. Objectives: this study aims to emphasize the purposes and results of using the dog in educational practice to affect the health and well-being of the person. At the same time, the objective is to define the profile of the professional educator in the setting of the pediatric hospital. Materials and methods: this bibliographic thesis was conducted through a literature review, by consulting the following databases: Pubmed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, ScienceDaily and Academia.edu. In addition, volumes, digital research journals and specific websites concerning the practice and laws that support such interventions were consulted. The inclusion criteria include the selection of articles both Italian and English. They were selected articles published in the last 10 years. The target audience concerns hospitalized children (Range considered: 0-18 years old) with various diagnoses. Results: A total of 40 studies was considered, in addition to texts and manuals on the topic in question. Discussions and conclusions: in relation to the plenty of scientific evidence that demonstrates the efficacy, the educational approach relating to the interaction between humans and animals is spreading successfully. It is believed that the Assisted Interventions with Animals can represent an excellent proposal for intervention, as the literature emphasized, in the practice of this discipline, positive effects regarding the improvement of little patient’s clinical parameters, the recovery of a more active daily life, a greater participation in the therapeutic project and therapeutic compliance. Keywords: pet therapy, IAA, pediatric hospital, educational project, sanitary educator.
