Lo spazio della memoria nelle Confessiones di Agostino

My thesis wants to suggest an analyses of the Augustinian’s reflection of the concept of memory, carried on Augustin, with particular reference to the tenth Book of his Confessions. The philosopher’s theories on the object were at the origin of the Medieval’s refections on the topic, establishing an essential reference also in the context of the philosophical and literary contemporaneity. Until now the Augustinian’s reflection on memory was object of numerous theoretical and historical-philosophical investigations, while the literary and narrative structure was never investigated before. This is what my thesis proposes to do. In the first chapter, the goal of the analyses is to explain what Augustin means by the term of memory, connected to the concept of oblivion. In the second chapter, instead, my analyses tries to locate and analyze which rhetorical devices where used from Augustin to describe memory.

Il presente lavoro di tesi vuole proporre un’analisi della riflessione agostiniana del concetto di memoria, portato avanti da Agostino, con particolare riferimento al libro X delle Confessioni. Le teorie del filosofo sull’argomento sono state all’origine delle riflessioni medievali sul tema, costituendo un riferimento imprescindibile anche nell’ambito della contemporaneità filosofica e letteraria. La riflessione agostiniana sulla memoria è stata finora oggetto di numerose indagini teoretiche e storico-filosofiche, mentre non ne è ancora stata indagata la struttura letteraria e narrativa. Questo è quello che la tesi si propone di fare. Nel primo capitolo, l’analisi si pone l’obiettivo di spiegare quanto intenda Agostino con il termine memoria, collegata al concetto di oblio. Nel secondo capitolo, invece, essa cerca di individuare e analizzare quali artifici retorici vengano utilizzati dal filosofo per descrivere la memoria.
