For the last two years, the whole world has been facing the COVID-19 pandemic and Italian government established a State of Emergency from January 31, 2020 to March 31, 2022. This research aims to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and young people’s psycho-emotional and scholastic well-being. The fundamental assumption of this study is that health, mood, personal relationships and school experiences have a decisive influence on young people’s well-being, which in turn has a fundamental role in school learning. Therefore, the goal of this work is to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on these four factors. The results are based on a correlational study carried out by a multiple choice questionnaire proposed to 754 students of the comprehensive school n. 2 Serena in Treviso. The sample includes people aged between 8 and 14 years, who began experiencing the pandemic between the ages of 6 and 12. The results affirm that, in relation to the sample considered, COVID-19 had an impact on children and young people’s lives, but not only and exclusively in a negative way. In particular, the present research demonstrates the correlation between the experience of COVID-19 and the level of physical activity and perceived health. Also the experience of COVID-19 in secondary school students correlates in a positive way with their general state of mind. On the other hand, it does not appear that the pandemic has negatively affected relationships or school experiences: it actually emerges that friendships and school are particularly appreciated by children and young people, probably thanks to the fact that the pandemic restrictions have for a long time prevented them to enjoy these experiences. From the obtained results it can also be observed that primary school students have a more negative experience of COVID-19 than secondary school students; it also emerges that female students report a significantly worse experience of the pandemic than male students. Moreover, it is important to take into account that children and young people are slowly going back to their everyday routine, but at the same time they are still living with emotional consequences due to pandemic restrictions – emotional status that will probably be kept in mind for long time. Thus, for those who everyday meet, educate and instruct children and young people, it would be essential to continue monitoring their psycho-emotional well-being.
