This paper was conceived with the aim of proposing a study concerning the relationship between executive functions, socio-emotional skills and aggression in preschool age, paying particular attention to gender and age differences. This experimental study involved a sample of children aged 3 to 5 belonging to the territory of the cities of Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto and Follina. In the first chapter, executive functions and socio-emotional skills will be examined through the presentation of the different definitions and models that have described them over time, the description of the abilities and sub-components that characterize them and their assessment. The second chapter will be dedicated to the relationship between executive functions, socio-emotional skills and aggression. In particular, the issues concerning the association between the development of socio-emotional skills and the development of executive functions and between executive functions, the theory of mind and socio-emotional functioning will be explored. In addition, possible training of executive functions and the consequent improvement of socio-emotional skills, gender differences in socio-emotional skills, executive functions and behavioral self-regulation will be illustrated. Final attention will be dedicated to aggression in preschool age, to the relationship between aggression, socio-emotional skills and executive functions. The third chapter will be dedicated to the description of the research work done in the academic year 2021/2022 on a sample of preschool children. After a brief introduction to the purpose of the research, a description of the participants and the pre-data collection procedures, the method, the tools used, the data collection procedure, the research hypotheses and the description of the results will be exposed. In the fourth chapter the discussion of the results and the merits, limitations and possible future developments of the research will be exposed.
Questo elaborato è stato ideato con lo scopo di proporre un approfondimento riguardante la relazione tra funzioni esecutive, competenze socio-emotive e aggressività in età prescolare prestando particolare attenzione alle differenze di genere e di età. Questo studio sperimentale ha coinvolto un campione di bambini dai 3 ai 5 anni appartenenti al territorio delle città di Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto e Follina. Nel primo capitolo verranno trattate funzioni esecutive e competenze socio-emotive attraverso l’esposizione delle differenti definizioni e modelli che le hanno descritte nel corso del tempo, la descrizione delle abilità e sottocomponenti che le caratterizzano e il loro assessment. Il secondo capitolo sarà dedicato alla relazione tra funzioni esecutive, competenze socio-emotive e aggressività. Verranno approfondite, in particolare, le tematiche riguardanti l’associazione tra lo sviluppo delle competenze socio-emotive e lo sviluppo delle funzioni esecutive e tra le funzioni esecutive, la teoria della mente e il funzionamento socio-emotivo. Inoltre, verranno illustrati possibili training delle funzioni esecutive e il conseguente miglioramento delle competenze socio-emotive, le differenze di genere nelle competenze socio-emotive, nelle funzioni esecutive e nell’autoregolazione comportamentale. Un’attenzione finale sarà dedicata all’aggressività in età prescolare, alla relazione tra aggressività, competenze socio-emotive e funzioni esecutive. Il terzo capitolo sarà dedicato alla descrizione del lavoro di ricerca effettuato nell’anno Accademico 2021/2022 su un campione di bambini in età prescolare. Dopo una breve introduzione allo scopo della ricerca, una descrizione dei partecipanti e delle procedure pre-raccolta dati saranno esposti il metodo, gli strumenti utilizzati, la procedura di raccolta dati, le ipotesi di ricerca e la descrizione dei risultati. Nel quarto capitolo verranno esposti la discussione dei risultati e i pregi, i limiti e i possibili sviluppi futuri della ricerca.
