The grains were the engine to premise advent of civilization, the transformation from nomadism to sedentary lifestyle. Their importance has been never changed over the centuries, because of not only economics advantages, but also nutritional’s one. All the ancient civilization, from Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek to the Romans, through the Medieval civilization coming to us, based their diet on grains. But cereals and their production have been for centuries also the currency of power and trade, between city rich of grains and city poor of grains, the realities that could not produce enough cereals to cover the whole calendar year. Over the centuries, territories like Valbelluna and Feltrino had to create ways to exchange with the plain, to be able to source all those products that couldn’t be produced or produced in limited quantities. In conclusion, let us look to the future for the possibilities that mountain agriculture can provide, analyzing the present local realities that are committed to the enhancement and development of the products of this land.
I cereali sono stato il motore che ha permesso l’avvento della civiltà: la trasformazione dal nomadismo alla sedentarietà. La loro importanza, nei secoli non è mai mutata, questo per la loro importanza, non solo economica, ma anche nutrizionale. Tutte le civiltà antiche Sumeri, Egizi, Greci, Romani, passando per le società medievali fino a noi, hanno basato la loro alimentazione sui cereali. I cereali e la loro produzione sono stati per secoli la moneta del potere e degli scambi, tra città che ne possedevano in abbondanza e quelle che non riuscivano ad autoprodursi la quantità di cereali sufficienti per coprire tutto l’anno solare. Nei secoli, i territori della Valbelluna e del feltrino hanno dovuto instaurare vie di scambio con la pianura, per potersi rifornire di cereali che non riusciva a produrre in quantità sufficienti; questo a causa di molteplici fattori che non favorirono l’avanzamento dell’agricoltura. Si volge, infine, uno sguardo al futuro e alle possibilità che l’agricoltura montana può fornire, analizzando le realtà presenti oggi sul territorio, che si impegnano nella valorizzazione e nello sviluppo dei prodotti di questa terra.
