Parlare di sessualità in Tv. L'evoluzione della rappresentazione del genere e della sessualità all'interno della televisione Americana.

Before 1980/90s the representation of gender and sex in television has always been lacking. On the other hand, recent productions on tv and on-demand channels have spread, increasing the freedom of expression, and letting the audience learn more about sexuality and gender variations. Furthermore, increasingly attention is given to the LGBT+ world and all its shades, with the aim of social inclusivity and appreciation of different genders and sexualities. Sexual scenes in television were ascribed to porn movies, while nowadays there is more involvement not only about the act of sex but also to the context it concerns. In movies as well as in real life it is possible to meet heterosexuals, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, or not binary people. Their representation seems to be less subject to stereotypes nowadays, i.e. lesbians women and gay men are no longer drawn as non-feminine or effeminate. The aim of this study is to outline the evolutionary path of the representation of sexuality and gender in television programs. After that I examinate The television Series “Sex Education”, which turns out to be a real revolution. This series brought to the screen themes and concepts of sexuality and gender never dealt with before. Following this, we will deal with the topic of television seriality, how it changed over the years and its specific characteristics.I will particularly deepen the topic by talking about digitalisation and the fandom that is built up around TV series. These explanations will be used to analyse how the theme of sexuality is nowadays represented in the mass media, more precisely in television serials, taking the television series ''sex education'' as an object of study.

La rappresentazione del genere e del sesso all'interno degli schermi televisivi prima degli anni '80/'90 è sempre stata carente; negli ultimi anni invece le produzioni legate alle televisioni e ai canali on demand si sono moltiplicate permettendo così una maggiore libertà espressiva, permettendo al pubblico di conoscere anche temi più sensibili riguardanti la sessualità e le variazioni di genere. Si da maggiore spazio e particolare attenzione a tutte le sfumature del mondo LGBT+ con una forte tensione all'inclusività sociale; inoltre nasce una certa vocazione a educare il pubblico alle differenze di genere e di sessualità. All'interno della televisione scene riguardanti il sesso erano prevalentemente legate a film porno, ora invece inizia ad esserci un maggior coinvolgimento non solo riguardante l’atto sessuale in sé ma a tutto il contesto che lo riguarda. Nel cinema come anche nella nella realtà si incontrano diverse persone tra cui eterosessuali, gay, lesbiche, bisessuali, transgender persone non binarie...Oggi la loro rappresentazione è sempre meno stereotipata; per esempio le donne lesbiche non sono più rappresentate in modo poco femminile con abiti larghi e vestiti da maschio e gli uomini gay non sono più tutti effeminati, anzi. L'obbiettivo di questo studio è quello di delineare il percorso evolutivo che ha avuto la rappresentazione della sessualità e del genere all'interno della televisione prendendo poi in esame la serie televisiva sex education; la quale risulta essere una vera e propria rivoluzione che ha portato sullo schermo tematiche e concetti della sessualità e del genere mai affrontati così prima. Nell'elaborato andremo ad affrontare inizialmente la tematica dei mass media soffermandoci poi sui loro effetti nel pubblico dopodichè andremo a documentarci sulla serialità televisiva, su come essa è mutata negli anni e sulle sue caratteristiche peculiari approfondendo l'argomento parlando della digitalizzazione e del fandom che si crea intorno alle serie tv. Queste spiegazioni ci serviranno per porre infine, un'analisi su come al giorno d'oggi la tematica della sessualità venga rappresentata all'interno dei mass media, più precisamente nella serialità televisiva, prendendo come oggetto di studio la serie televisiva ''sex education''.
