The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the efficacy and the limits of the European Union’s human rights dialogues with third countries, regional organizational and within international fora, and the influence that economic and political factors may have on them. It will first examine the policy instruments and actors involved before moving towards concrete examples of human rights dialogues, namely with China, the African Union, and the United Nations system by highlighting the different approaches in regard to the context and the other party. The conclusion will address the findings providing several recommendations that could be implemented in order to reinforce the EU commitments towards human rights. The thesis uses a Chicago citation style with footnotes and a final bibliography and webography.
