The paper initially tries to summarize the different views on the concept of play given by philosophers throughout history. The order of the exposition follows the level of complexity that each author attributed to this concept, starting from those who give less value to the phenomenon of play, considering it as a puerile thing, and ending with the ones who consider the ludic element as an essential trait of the entire human experience. The philosophy of Merleau-Ponty encloses a thought on play that, if appropriately made explicit, could represent a brand new perspective. Some scholars already elaborated on the theme and their papers are analyzed in the second chapter. The analysis hints at the possibility of a really wide idea of play, that would coincide with everything that is "for us". The last chapter evaluates, through some Merleau-Pontian concepts, the validity of this idea and what its consequences would be.

Abstract
The last chapter evaluates, through some Merleau-Pontian concepts, the validity of this idea and what its consequences would be.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
