Wild plants have been used in traditional medicine and in human nutrition since ancient times. Their benefits and characteristics have been known for centuries, but only in recent years the interest in these vegetables has grown. This paper aims to collect the informations available in the literature on Foeniculum vulgare and Asparagus acutifolius, two wild plants that have well-defined characteristics in terms of quality and functionality. Phytochemical studies have shown the presence of numerous valuable compounds, such as volatile compounds, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, fatty acids and amino acids. Other studies have indicated their efficacy in different pharmacological properties in vitro and in vivo as antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-fungal activities. These two wild plants have emerged as a good source for formulations that can generate new pharmaceutical and food products.
