This paper describes the implementation and the outcome evaluation of an experimental project carried out in the Addiction Service of Bassano del Grappa, in which the use of expressive techniques, such as theater therapy, were chosen as a method of treatment and improvement of the health status and well-being of the person with alcohol addiction. The first chapter describes the organization of the Addiction Department of Azienda Ulss 7 Pedemontana and the characteristics of the users accessing the Service. In the first part of the second chapter, the concepts of health and well- being are analyzed, and then the use of expressive techniques, particularly drama therapy, in taking care of users with addiction problems is explored. In the second part, the project called SPERIMENT-ACTION, which aims to increase self-perceived well-being and thus promote user’s health, is specifically discussed. A sample of 21 people participated in the intervention, including service users and family members/caregivers, who were offered an innovative intervention method focused on a different way of communicating their distress. In the third chapter, the results collected from the evaluation performed using the Psycological General Well-Being Index (PGWBI) questionnaire are analyzed. In the conclusions, we highlight how this intervention produced an improvement in well-being and health status in the sample, highlighting the strategic role that the Professional Educator plays in the field of health promotion and in the therapeutic relationship with users suffering from addiction disorders.
