The starting point of the thesis is the birth of the concept of metaverse and its evolution starting from MMORPG video games and passing through 'first generation' metaverses such as Second life, showing how these had already developed all the key ideas on which the 'second generation' metaverses were based. Avatars, virtual worlds, currencies, recreational and commercial activities, etc. were already present, but in a totally different technological, social, cultural and economic context that was not ready. Today, on the other hand, with a society already economically, socially and culturally interconnected in a digital dimension, and with an online market more accessible thanks to technologies and new professions; the conditions for adoption are better and more ready. These conditions are more present within the video game ecosystem, which is why the paper aims to argue how video gamers can be the first community (early adopters) to adopt second generation metaverses. The social habits developed online in the last 20 years and the new conditions of profitability provided by blockchain are creating new social, economic and cultural spaces in which this community operates.

Abstract
The social habits developed online in the last 20 years and the new conditions of profitability provided by blockchain are creating new social, economic and cultural spaces in which this community operates.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
