Decostruire il binarismo di genere: il caso studio della comunità Hijra.

The aim of this thesis is to deconstruct the concept of gender binarism that permeates identity discourses in Western societies. Through reading and analysing books and scientific articles, the way in which the concept of body, sexuality and gender identity has been constructed in the Western world will be analysed and compared with societies in which gender has been thought of and experienced differently. The case study of the Hijra community will be explored in order to bring an example of an identity that goes beyond the binary concept of "man" and "woman" and to demonstrate that gender binarism, despite being a concept that we are educated to from birth, is one of the elements of society that is culturally constructed and that, as such, can vary over time, space and between cultures.

L’obiettivo di questa tesi è decostruire il concetto di binarismo di genere che permea i discorsi sull’identità nelle società occidentali. Attraverso la lettura e l’analisi di libri e articoli scientifici verrà analizzato il modo in cui è stato costruito il concetto di corpo, sessualità e identità di genere nel mondo occidentale e sarà messo a confronto con società in cui in cui il genere è stato pensato e vissuto in modo differente. Verrà approfondito il caso studio della comunità Hijra per portare un esempio di identità che esula dalla concezione binaria di “uomo” e “donna” e dimostrare che il binarismo di genere, nonostante sia un concetto a cui si viene educati dalla nascita, è uno degli elementi della società costruito culturalmente e che, in quanto tale, può variare nel tempo, nello spazio e tra culture.
