The dissertation will deal with the phenomena of shell shock and PTSD that have developed in the First World War, but more in general with the traumatic psychological consequences of the Great War on the mind of the soldiers, in particular through the eye of who has been actively involved in the battlefield in first person and has talked about it through literature and poetry. In this dissertation will be analyzed the essential persona of Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen, and Ivor Gurney with their poetry and witnesses of life, also with the assistance of subject matter experts and other important authors. The analysis has the ambition of testifying the literary importance that gained the traumatic representation of the First World War in literature and particularly in poetry.
Questa tesi affronterà i fenomeni della psicosi traumatica e del disturbo post-traumatico da stress che si sono sviluppati nella Prima guerra mondiale, ma più in generale affronterà le traumatiche conseguenze psicologiche della Grande Guerra sulla mente dei soldati, in particolare attraverso l'occhio di chi è stato coinvolto direttamente nel campo di battaglia e ne ha parlato attraverso la letteratura e la poesia. In questa tesi verranno analizzate le personalità importanti di Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen e Ivor Gurney con le loro esperienze di vita, anche con il contributo di altri esperti in materia e altri autori importanti. L’analisi ha l’ambizione di testimoniare dell’importanza letteraria che ha preso la rappresentazione traumatica della Prima guerra mondiale nella letteratura e in particolare nella poesia.
