Retracing the events that characterised the Civil Rights movement and Anti-Vietnam War protests in the United States, this thesis analyses some of the songs that accompanied this era. Music in its various forms – ranging from Spirituals and Gospel as well as folk music during the Civil Rights movement to Rock during the protests against the Vietnam war, made a key contribution to both the cohesion of an entire generation striving for greater social justice and the development of an ideal of peace against the terrible effects of the war.
Ripercorrendo gli avvenimenti che hanno caratterizzato le lotte per i diritti civili e le proteste contro la guerra nel Vietnam negli Stati Uniti, la tesi analizza alcune delle canzoni che hanno accompagnato questo periodo storico. La musica nelle sue varie forme, dagli Spirituals and Gospel e la folk-music durante i movimenti per i diritti civili, o il Rock nelle proteste contro la guerra in Vietnam, ha dato un contributo fondamentale sia per mantenere unita un’intera generazione che aspirava a una maggiore giustizia sociale e sia alla maturazione di un ideale di pace contro gli orrori della guerra.
