The aim of the thesis is to investigate the relationship that exists between diet and synthesis, absorption and functioning of neurotransmitters. These molecules are significantly implicated in psychophysical health, the topic of importance of food abits will be explored considering the clinical meaning about neurotransmitters imbalance. The consulting of the current scientific literature has the objective of identifyng which are the main food sources of neurotrasmitters, as well as clarifyng the efficacy of some food supplements proposed by pharmaceutical companies like GABA e 5-HTP. Another important aspect concerns the functioning of the gut microbiota which related to the synthesis and transport of neurotransmitters.
La tesi mira ad indagare sul legame che coesiste tra alimentazione e la sintesi, l'assorbimento e il funzionamento dei neurotrasmettitori. Essendo queste molecole significativamente implicate nella salute psicofisica, verrà toccato il tema dell'importanza delle abitudini alimentari e il significato clinico di uno squilibrio di neurotrasmettitori. La consultazione dell'attuale letteratura scientifica ha l'obbiettiva di indentificare quali sono le principali fonti alimentari di neurotrasmettitori, nonchè chiarire l'efficacia di alcuni integratori alimentari proposti dalle aziende farmaceutiche come GABA e 5-HTP. Altro importante aspetto riguarda il funzionamento del microbiota intestinale che risulta direttamente correlato alla sintesi e trasporto dei neurotrasmettitori.
