This dissertation aims to enunciate the fundamental steps and strategies for an effective translation that allows the understanding of various publications, such as articles, essays or books concerning current social themes. In this case, an online essay on the global emergency represented by waste for the conservation of ecosystems and human health is taken as reference. The first chapter contains the main theoretical concepts on translation and how to structure a technical text, highlighting the role of the translator himself, as well as the methods and techniques he strategically adopts for a proper interpretation by readers. The second chapter presents the essay published on the Aeon online platform by Justin McGuirk The Waste Age, with a corresponding translation proposal, which is carefully analyzed in the following chapter. The third chapter shows the techniques adopted by the translator to produce the final text, and the lexical, syntactic and morphological issues encountered during the whole process.
