The Mediterranean Diet refers to the eating habits followed by nations situated around the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean Diet is not simply a diet but is rather considered a philosophy of life. For the Mediterranean people, it is a way of rebuilding identity and ties to their origin. It has been widely discussed in all aspects and has proven health benefits including its ability to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer, as well as to promote healthy aging and longevity. Since Lebanon is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, it adheres to the basics and main components of the Mediterranean Diet but has its special dietary habits, recipes and traditions. In this literature paper we will discuss the specificities of the Lebanese dietary patterns, adherence of its population to the traditional Lebanese food and obstacles that prevent the Lebanese community to hold to the healthy traditional diet.
