This research activity involved the study of weldments in low and medium carbon and high silicon bainitic steel, using MIG and TIG welding techniques. In particular, dilatometry was used to analyse phase transformations in the various regions of the weldment. The microstructure was also analyzed by optical microscopy, scanning and transmission electronics, hardness testing and tensile testing with support of the DIC technique. The effect of post-welding heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the weldments has been studied and it has been found that post-heat treatment performances have improved, both in terms of ductility and strenght (<1000 MPa). A preliminary study was also carried out using medium carbon steel as consumable. From the characterization it has been observed that do not occur hot and cold cracking phenomena that do not affect the weldability of the material.
