The present research work aims to investigate the effectiveness of the embodied cognition framework in the meaningful learning of observable astronomical phenomena. The basic idea is, in fact, that the use of the body facilitates the students in the process of acquiring the spatial skills necessary to orient themselves in the world, in particular the perspective taking ability, the ability to acquire different observation perspectives depending on the frame of reference. The embodied cognition framework offers an immersive learning environment in which learners can experience and investigate celestial phenomena. In this regard, from an educational point of view, it is vital to adopt the Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) approach, based on research and investigation starting from direct observation and experimentation of phenomena. What will be proposed in this research will be a path in which 5th grade students will study the main motions of celestial bodies, using the body, tools and physical models as mediators for learning. The aim of the research is, therefore, to understand to what extent the embodied cognition approach allows a deep learning of the phenomena, helps students to overcome their misconceptions about them and develops motivation towards astronomy in general.
Il presente lavoro di ricerca ha lo scopo di indagare l’efficacia dell’embodied cognition framework nell’apprendimento significativo dei fenomeni astronomici osservabili. L’idea di fondo è, infatti, che l’utilizzo del corpo faciliti gli studenti nel processo di acquisizione delle abilità spaziali necessarie per orientarsi nel mondo, in particolare dell’abilità di perspective taking, ovvero la capacità di acquisire prospettive di osservazione differenti a seconda del sistema di riferimento. L’embodied cognition framework offre un contesto di apprendimento immersivo nel quale gli allievi possono sperimentare attivamente i fenomeni celesti e condurre indagini su essi. A tal proposito, dal punto di vista didattico, si rivela di vitale importanza adottare l’approccio dell’Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE), basato sulla ricerca e l’investigazione a partire dall’osservazione diretta e la sperimentazione dei fenomeni. Ciò che verrà proposto in questa ricerca sarà un percorso in cui degli alunni di quinta primaria si cimenteranno nello studio dei principali moti dei corpi celesti, utilizzando il corpo, gli strumenti e i modelli fisici come mediatori per l’apprendimento. Obiettivo della ricerca è, quindi, capire in che misura l’approccio dell’embodied cognition consenta un apprendimento profondo dei fenomeni, aiuti gli allievi a superare le loro misconcezioni a riguardo e sviluppi motivazione verso l’astronomia in generale.
