Multiple births have increased in bovine species, especially in dairy cows. Several studies have reported a variety of factors affecting multiple births. This thesis analysed data of Austrian Pinzgau and Tyrol Grey cows calving between 2000 and 2022 to identify environmental sources of variation and to estimate heritability and repeatability of multiple births. Also, the effects of multiple births on various cow- and calf-related traits have been investigated. Estimates of heritability and repeatability, in both breeds, were in accordance with previous reports in other dual-purpose breeds. Due to possible negative effects of multiple births, their occurrence should be further monitored.
