This thesis explores challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector, considering the importance of sustainable agriculture in the context of the European Green Deal and population growth. The paper places great emphasis on the revolutionary role of artificial intelligence (AI) in overcoming these challenges. AI is presented as a multidisciplinary technology with applications in different areas of agriculture, such as water resource management and early detection of plant diseases. A detailed overview of AI technologies from machine learning to deep learning and their practical applications is provided. Data and image analysis is a particular strength of AI, with the use of convolutional neural networks for applications such as plant disease diagnosis and soil evaluation. The thesis concludes by addressing the technical and ethical limitations of AI, such as overfitting and high computational power requirements, and emphasizes the importance of a sound regulatory framework for the ethical use of AI technologies.
La tesi esplora le sfide e le opportunità nel settore agricolo, considerando l'importanza di un'agricoltura sostenibile nel contesto del Green Deal europeo e dell'aumento demografico. Il documento pone grande enfasi sul ruolo rivoluzionario dell'intelligenza artificiale (IA) nel superare queste sfide. L'IA è presentata come una tecnologia multidisciplinare con applicazioni in diversi settori dell'agricoltura, come la gestione delle risorse idriche e la diagnosi precoce delle malattie delle piante. Viene fornita una panoramica dettagliata delle tecnologie IA, dal machine learning al deep learning e delle loro applicazioni pratiche. L'analisi dati e delle immagini è un particolare punto di forza dell'IA, con l'uso di reti neurali convoluzionali per applicazioni come la diagnosi delle malattie delle piante e la valutazione del suolo. La tesi conclude affrontando i limiti tecnici ed etici dell'IA, come l'overfitting e le esigenze di alta potenza computazionale, e sottolinea l'importanza di un quadro normativo solido per l'uso etico delle tecnologie IA.
