Hydrogeological hazard is a problem that affects a large part of the national territory, the greatest effects of the phenomenon are highlighted in mountain areas where debris-flow events represent a threat to towns and infrastructures. In the particular context of the Ampezzo area, in the Boite river valley, this type of event is aggravated by the large quantity of debris deposits that form large coalescent conoids at the base of the rocky walls of Mount Pomagagnon, Sorapis and Antelao, rocky reliefs located on the hydrographic left side of the river Boite. The measures to be implemented to reduce risk involve the creation and implementation of different types of systems, both active and passive, their management and a regular maintenance. The purpose of this study is the design of a defense system from debris flows, through the construction of two retention basins, placed to protect the national road n.51 "Alemagna", in the locality of Fiames, in the municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The infrastructure to be protected is a very busy road and could be affected by flows coming from two debris-flow channels which threaten the stretch between km 109+400 and km 109+800. The two channels are in the northernmost part of the Ampezzo side of Mount Pomagagnon. The area presents a complex situation where multiple debris channels have been identified which, in the past, have already generated events of such magnitude as to affect road no. 51. Using the data from a characterization and analysis study of the existing debris-flows channels carried out by the Department TESAF of the University of Padova for ANAS spa, design hypotheses were made for the creation of two retention basins for trapping the estimated debris flows routing along the two channels that threat the national road n.51 between the kilometers 109+400 and 109+800. In designing the characteristics, typology and shape of the two defense works, the particular conditions of the area due to the slopes of the slope, the presence of other quiescent flows and the narrowness of the spaces available were taken into account. A topographic survey was carried out using GPS technology. of the area to better define its current morphology in order to be able to compare it with previous situations reconstructed using GIS software.
