The following thesis proposes to study the relationship between the work of Claude Monet, the leader of Impressionism, and Japanese art, particularly Ukiyo-e prints, observing the evolution of this link over the course of the celebrated painter's career. Starting with the artist's biography and then moving on to a quick historical contextualization of the phenomenon of Japanism, the link between Monet and the world of Ukiyo-e throughout his entire artistic career and how this evolved over time will be analyzed.
La seguente tesi propone di studiare il rapporto tra l’opera di Claude Monet, caposcuola dell’Impressionismo, e l'arte giapponese, in particolare le stampe Ukiyo-e, osservando l'evoluzione di questo legame nel corso della carriera del celebre pittore. Partendo dalla biografia del artista, passando poi per una rapida contestualizzazione storica del fenomeno del giapponismo, verrà analizzato il legame tra Monet e il mondo delle Ukiyo-e lungo la sua intera carriera artistica e come questo si sia evoluto nel corso del tempo.
