In numerous years of research, the question has been raised as to whether the quality of mother-child interactions can influence, in particular, the child's cognitive and social-emotional development. Early studies showed that especially maternal sensitivity, that is, the mother's ability to be able to pick up and interpret the child's signals in order to provide a quick and appropriate response, turns out to be of crucial importance in creating affective attunement and in giving the child the tools to understand and know herself better. Elizabeth Meins, based on previous findings, has carried out several studies primarily considering the importance of maternal Mind-Mindedness: the propensity on the part of the mother to regard her child as a person with a mind and, consequently, to interact with him by frequently referring to his mental states. It also analyzes the link between Mind-Mindedness and the development of the child's ToM: if the mother is able to give meaning to her son's emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, he, too, reflexively learns to develop the ability to mentalize about his internal states.

Abstract
It also analyzes the link between Mind-Mindedness and the development of the child's ToM: if the mother is able to give meaning to her son's emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, he, too, reflexively learns to develop the ability to mentalize about his internal states.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
