The present study aims to evaluate, on shelter dogs, the short-term behavioral effects of an environmental enrichment program differentiated by type. A food-type environmental enrichment, through the use of olfactory research, and an interspecific social enrichment, through interaction with humans, were proposed and compared. From the data analyzed it emerges that there is no significant influence of the order in which the activities are carried out, but an effect of the type of enrichment proposed is evident: dogs exposed to interspecific social enrichment remain visible for a longer time than dogs exposed to food enrichment through olfactory research. No significant differences emerged in terms of exhibiting a specific behavior in relation to the type of enrichment proposed. At the same time, the study also aims to evaluate the effects of the use of different recording rules in the analysis of the behavior of dogs in situations of chronic confinement, in particular in a shelter environment. The aim is to compare the data obtained from continuous recording readings with those obtained from instantaneous sampling readings at different sample intervals (15s, 30s, 60s), in order to evaluate their degree of reliability and significance. Regarding the results obtained from the descriptive study regarding the effects of different types of environmental enrichments, it can be concluded that the data obtained with all four types of recording rules lead to the same conclusions, with a good degree of reliability. Overall, the results appear to be in agreement with what Martin and Bateson (2021) defined, according to which instantaneous sampling is not suitable for recording short-lived discrete events, nor is it suitable for recording rare behaviors. In accordance with their studies, it was observed that a record approaching continuous recording can be produced if the sampling interval is sufficiently short compared to the average duration of the behavior. The effect of the starting point in instantaneous sampling readings, which could have significant consequences, will need to be taken into consideration in future studies.

Abstract
The present study aims to evaluate, on shelter dogs, the short-term behavioral effects of an environmental enrichment program differentiated by type. A food-type environmental enrichment, through the use of olfactory research, and an interspecific social enrichment, through interaction with humans, were proposed and compared. From the data analyzed it emerges that there is no significant influence of the order in which the activities are carried out, but an effect of the type of enrichment proposed is evident: dogs exposed to interspecific social enrichment remain visible for a longer time than dogs exposed to food enrichment through olfactory research.
