Afghanistan, named the crossroads of Central Asia because of its peculiar geostrategic position, fell victim to the expansionist goals of the major leaders of the past and the superpowers of the present, from Alexander the Great to the US. Despite repeated invasions, the country was never colonized. Above all, because of the courage of their warriors, divided by ethnic antagonism but united by the expulsion of an external enemy. Only thus could Afghanistan control two great empires, Britain and the Soviet Union, and influence the balance of Central Asia for centuries.

Abstract
Afghanistan, named the crossroads of Central Asia because of its peculiar geostrategic position, fell victim to the expansionist goals of the major leaders of the past and the superpowers of the present, from Alexander the Great to the US. Despite repeated invasions, the country was never colonized. Above all, because of the courage of their warriors, divided by ethnic antagonism but united by the expulsion of an external enemy. Only thus could Afghanistan control two great empires, Britain and the Soviet Union, and influence the balance of Central Asia for centuries.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
