The final objective of this thesis is to investigate the issue of dubbing in the context of audiovisual translation. In particular, analysing the dubbing into Italian of the Spanish television series Las chicas del cable, paying attention to the translation techniques used by the translator during the translation phase. In the first chapter, a general introduction on translation is given, then going into the specifics and talking about audiovisual translation and when the real need for translators to translate audiovisual texts occurred. This will allow me to address, in the following paragraphs, issues related to dubbing in Spain such as its origins and history, representing an important stage in the history of Spanish cinema. After dealing with the impact of dubbing with digitisation and subtitling in audiovisual translation, I introduced and explained in detail the different phases of which a dubbing is composed such as translation, adaptation, production, direction and mixing and the professional figures that are part of it. Finally, I concluded the chapter by addressing the issue of the reality effect, which makes the target language of the film or TV series as close as possible to the language spoken by the viewer. The second chapter deals with the similarities that two languages considered to be related such as Spanish and Italian have in common. Subsequently, the translation techniques that emerge during the translation phase are introduced, quoting the definitions proposed by Hurtado Albir in his manual Traducción y Traductología (2001). In addition, the problems and difficulties during translation are addressed, specifically analysing the most common errors the translator encounters. In the third and final chapter, some technical information about the television series is provided, such as the producer and the division of the seasons into episodes. In the last paragraph I will address the analysis of the translation techniques, encountered in the dialogues of an episode of the series, adopted by the translator during the dubbing phase.
