The following paper proposes an extended exploration of the role of the translator, starting from its historical origins and arriving at contemporary issues. Through an analysis of the historical reflections on translation and the role of the translator, it explores the Translations studies and the Translation Didactics, outlining the training required to become a translator. The invisibility of the translator is highlighted, both in general areas and in the distinction between literary and technical translation, exploring his marginal position in relation to his own work and delving into the rights and associations in favour of the professional. The study is enriched with interviews with different translators, offering not only a theoretical but also a testimonial view, contributing to the understanding of the practice and daily challenges that translators face in their work. This multidimensional approach provides a comprehensive perspective on the many facets of the translation world.

Cette étude propose une exploration en profondeur du rôle du traducteur, en commençant par ses origines historiques et en arrivant aux défis contemporains. À travers une analyse des réflexions historiques sur la traduction et le rôle du traducteur, on examine l'émergence de la Traductologie et de la Didactique de la Traduction, en soulignant la formation requise pour devenir traducteur. L'invisibilité du traducteur est mise en évidence, tant dans les domaines généraux que dans la distinction entre traduction littéraire et technique, en explorant sa position marginale par rapport à son propre travail et en approfondissant les droits et les associations en faveur du professionnel. L'étude est enrichie d'entretiens avec différents traducteurs, qui offrent une vision non seulement théorique mais aussi testimoniale, contribuant à la compréhension de la pratique et des défis quotidiens auxquels les traducteurs sont confrontés dans leur travail. Cette approche multidimensionnelle permet de saisir les multiples aspects du monde de la traduction.
