Inclusive tourism emerges as a fundamental element in the tourism sector, promoting and offering unhindered access to experiences and services, thus ensuring that every individual can fully and equally participate in tourism experiences. This approach is based on the principle that tourism opportunities, including facilities, activities, and information, should be designed and organized to be accessible to all, without any barriers of any kind. The concept of inclusive tourism not only recognizes the importance of removing physical obstacles but also extends to the elimination of cultural, social, and informational barriers, promoting a fair tourism experience. This thesis investigates the historical and cultural evolution of the perception of disability and inclusion practices, exploring how these have changed from ancient times to the present day. Through an analysis of the evolution of social attitudes and inclusion policies, from ancient mythology and the punishment of the gods to modern international regulations such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, this study aims to offer a holistic view of inclusion dynamics in the tourism context. The work consists of an investigation into the effectiveness of current policies and infrastructure for inclusive tourism, paying particular attention to the challenges and opportunities related to universal access and the tourism experience for people with disabilities. Despite the wide range of existing disabilities and the need for inclusive tourism for other categories of people, this thesis focuses on motor and sensory disabilities. In this context, various barriers that may limit the tourism experience of these individuals are analyzed, including not only architectural obstacles but also cultural, environmental, and social ones, to provide an in-depth understanding of the specific challenges that influence their participation in tourism. Through this analysis, the work aims to outline strategies and practical solutions that can optimize accessibility and enrich the tourism experience, highlighting the importance of the Professional Educator as a figure towards more inclusive tourism. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop concrete proposals that can significantly contribute to the creation of a fully accessible and inclusive tourism environment, demonstrating how mindful attention to the needs of people with disabilities can enrich the tourism offering and promote a more satisfying experience for all travelers.
