Although the crucial and active role of sleep in memory consolidation and integration processes is widely acknowledged in literature, its specific role in emotional processes is still debated. The aim of the study, underlying this thesis, was to investigate the influence of sleep on memory consolidation. In particular, this thesis will focus on neurophysiological mechanisms, including the coupling between slow oscillations and sleep spindles, and their relationship with the consolidation of stimuli with neutral and emotional content, observing if there any differences in terms of memory recall for these two types of material.

Abstract
Although the crucial and active role of sleep in memory consolidation and integration processes is widely acknowledged in literature, its specific role in emotional processes is still debated. The aim of the study, underlying this thesis, was to investigate the influence of sleep on memory consolidation. In particular, this thesis will focus on neurophysiological mechanisms, including the coupling between slow oscillations and sleep spindles, and their relationship with the consolidation of stimuli with neutral and emotional content, observing if there any differences in terms of memory recall for these two types of material.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
