The study of this thesis focuses on the Product data management systems (PDM system) and its implementation within the R&D department of a multinational company producing PLC for refrigeration. The thesis highlights PDM system as a product data management tool for all documentation related to products created. The aim is to create a smooth and manageable workflow within the department. A PLC product is taken as reference to be used to design the existing workflow and to design a new workflow. The focus of this study is to enable PDM implementation for a smooth and efficient flow of information within the department to enhance the quality of output within the department. The thesis bases its information using the triangulation method which is a combination of the information achieved from the literature review, the information obtained from the Delphi method and the writers own experiences, studies, and observations. The key findings of this research are defined as: 1)The triangulation method unified viewpoints from literature review, Delphi survey, and observations, providing a detailed analysis of PDM system benefits in R\&D. 2)The triangulation method highlighted that focusing on relevant PDM functionalities at each product life cycle stage, such as CAD integration during design, maximizes benefits. 3)Research shows the PDM system is more efficient than legacy systems, reducing time to obtain documents, though effectiveness depends on user expertise.
