Somalia is the middle of a prolonged humanitarian crisis caused by decades of civil war and the consequences of climate change which alternates floods to extreme drought, provoking famine. The population has no choice but to leave their houses in order to migrate looking for safe areas, which is impossible due to violence and systematic attacks. To this factor gender-based violence needs to be added, since Somalia is one the leader countries in its perpetration, due to its patriarchal structure which controls every aspect of women's lives. As some research show, during armed conflicts women are more exposed to gender-based violence and they are even more exposed when internally displaced because of the lack of protection of the inexistent state. However, contrary to what many believe, Somali women don't stay silent. The role of local actors and actresses is crucial in fighting the consequences of the humanitarian crisis, but the role of the actresses is even more important in fighting a patriarchal system which legitimizes violence and abuses.
