This experimental thesis presents a study in the field of brown bear socialization, with the aim of developing a working ethogram for future socialization studies The study focused on a pair of brown bears, a male and a female, housed in adjacent enclosures within a sanctuary context. By enabling controlled interactions through a gate mechanism it was firstly possible to evaluate the social compatibility. Subsequently, a brief period of cohabitation was introduced to observe social behaviors and dynamics Despite encountering logistical constraints leading to an abbreviated socialization timeframe, the study provided valuable insights. The developed ethogram demonstrated efficacy in documenting bear behaviors and facilitating qualitative analysis, allowing for potential applicability in similar contexts. However, resource limitations hindered the desired outcome of the socialization process, highlighting the importance of adequate resources management in future endeavors. Overall the study emphasizes the significance of continued research efforts in brown bears ethology, taking into consideration the methodological refinement and resource allocation to achieve positive outcomes in wildlife management and conservation.

Abstract
Overall the study emphasizes the significance of continued research efforts in brown bears ethology, taking into consideration the methodological refinement and resource allocation to achieve positive outcomes in wildlife management and conservation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
