The thesis explores the emotional resonances of the therapist towards patients with borderline personality disorder. Starting from the analysis of the evolution of the concept of countertransference and its different typologies, we examine the difficulty of working with some patients who can arouse strong negative emotions, leading to a significant risk of burnout. The therapeutic relationship with a borderline patient is often accompanied by prejudice and stigmatization, which can alert the clinician, especially if inexperienced or in training. It is essential to focus on how to address these challenges, maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance and managing the patient's projective identifications, also making use of personal therapy or supervision.

Abstract
The thesis explores the emotional resonances of the therapist towards patients with borderline personality disorder. Starting from the analysis of the evolution of the concept of countertransference and its different typologies, we examine the difficulty of working with some patients who can arouse strong negative emotions, leading to a significant risk of burnout. The therapeutic relationship with a borderline patient is often accompanied by prejudice and stigmatization, which can alert the clinician, especially if inexperienced or in training. It is essential to focus on how to address these challenges, maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance and managing the patient's projective identifications, also making use of personal therapy or supervision.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
